Not only is it important for us to bring together our communities but we also strive to bring awareness to important issues. Below we have some examples of the work we do each year!
Salute to Latina's: Fuerza de la mujer latina
The Salute to Latinas: Fuerza de la Mujer Latina has been our signature event for twenty-eight years and was created to honor the accomplishments and strengths of all Latina women and women of color. Each year we celebrate our history, cultures, and diversity with pride. We strive to find speakers that are well respected in the community. Additionally, we take this opportunity to announce and celebrate the winner of our Lydia Cruz & Sandra Maria Ramos Scholarship for young emerging Latina leaders. We also award the “Diamond Award” to a woman dedicated to performing above and beyond in community service and the improvement of the Latino community. The night is focused on celebrating our accomplishments and reflecting on how to collectively improve the conditions of the community. The event ends with a special tribute to Latinas and all women of color, which varies from spoken word to cultural performances.
Right to success
Right to Success (RTS) is an all-expenses-paid annual event for eligible Grand Rapids Public School students. It’s growth since in the last 10 years showcases the amazing work that our organizations have been able to accomplish together. Right to Success is a completely student-driven program in which the members of both Delta Tau Lambda and Sigma Lambda Beta International, Fraternity Inc. facilitate the process of bringing high school juniors from Grand Rapids onto the University of Michigan campus for a full day of programming. This event allows students many first-generation students to gain insight on the University of Michigan's programs and student life.
Fundraisers
Each year, the sisters of Delta Tau Lambda host fundraisers to gain funding for our annual Lydia Cruz and Sandra Maria Ramos Scholarship, which is a scholarship given to a woman of color who is pursuing higher education. We host different fundraisers based on what our sisters see best fit. This past year we have done a chocolate covered strawberry sale, rose grams, pie a DTl, and many other fun events.
Other Events
We also do many other events that our sisters are passionate about bringing to campus. From having a sexual health awareness event to mental health awareness events in the past. These allow us to put together our ideas and bring forth community events that we have deep interest in. Not only do many of our events foster community amongst fellow students, but they also allow us to teach and bring awareness to certain issues prevalent in our community.
